The recently published overview The Routledge Companion to Contemporary European Theater and Performance (2024) includes a chapter on my work, written by Liesbeth Groot Nibbelink of Utrecht University. Below is a quote and the link to the relevant chapter.
‘From the early stages of her professional career, starting with her graduation from the Amsterdam School of the Arts in 2001 (…) Lotte van den Berg has steadily built a very authentic and original oeuvre, in which she continues to examine what binds and connects people, and how one can be in dialogue in a careful and attentive manner. Within this trajectory, she increasingly deviates from well-trodden paths, first by alternatively working within and outside the theatre, then stepping outside the theatrical form, then moving beyond the theatre institution itself. Is it still theatre then? Surely it is. Yet the firm affirmation requires us to rethink what constitutes theatre in the first place. For Van den Berg, theatre is a place for exercising togetherness and for acquiring the skills to do so. ‘
